Very long ripening season with harvest occurring 3 weeks later than previous vintages. No major weather events prior to the harvest of the Chardonnay. Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay - Region: Adelaide Hill Winemaker’s Comment:Pressed directly to oak, 30% new French. Wild ferment. The wine stayed in these barrels on full lees until bottling in October. I stirred weekly after primary ferment for 3 months. . The wine has undergone full malolactic fermentation. The wine had a rough rack out of barrel and then settled in tank for a few days prior to bottle. Bottled unfined, with a small add of Sulphur at bottling. No other adds. Aroma; stone fruits, grapefruit, red apple and lemon balm Palate:The palate leaning a bit more into preserved lemon, ginger, a touch of light quince and cinnamon-vanilla cream. A faint chalkiness in texture through the finish adds some pizzazz and the trail of briny minerality that lingers is a delight Alcohol: 12% Ageing: French Oak. Score/Award: James Halliday : 93 points
