Andrew, owner of Good Intention, moved back to his childhood town Mount Gambier to build up the winery. They have the first vintage in 2014.
They wanted to grip the earth with their toes and use the knowledge of organic farming and permaculture to create their own wine label. Their dream is to inspire home grown eating, drinking and music that nourishes the land and reflects our personalities and to share it with the community.
They now own and farm their Chardonnay vineyard, farm lease Boxer’s Pinot block and are currently planting two more on our farm which is located on the outskirts of Mount Gambier, South Australia. Their winery, property and all their leased vineyards are located on the south side of one of Australia’s youngest volcano. Erupting less than 6000 years ago it is filled water that changes color with the seasons. Arising from an ancient inland sea made into limestone and now receiving water from underground caves added with our generous rainfall all contributes to the abundance of water stored in underground limestone caves with pockets of flint rock spread below the nearby soils. The limestone filters the water naturally and the result is a pure water thriving with minerality. All this helps make for incredible soil complexity and their cool climate makes for perfect growing conditions and turn beautiful, elegant and totally unique wines like no other.
They make wines that reflect the eccentricities of their personalities, place and terroir with a minimalistic approach. They use old world wine methods, preferring the challenges of hand picking their fruit, open fermenting with indigenous yeast and only adding sulphur when required by the wine. They do not filter or fine their wines and they are all bottles on the site in their small winery. Their aim is to produce great tasting unique wines expressing this unique teroir above anything else. Their produce what we like to drink.
Remark: Mount Gambier is not a mountain, but a city built on an extinct volcano. The city is located on the border of Victoria and South Australia. Located 450 kilometers southeast of Adelaide and 435 kilometers west of Melbourne, it is also the second largest city in South Australia.
