Winemakers Comments
Vintage 2023 was the coldest, wettest and trickiest years we’ve faced. Endless rain on the east coast over the last few years came to roost with the Murray River flooding to the second highest levels in recorded history in the Riverland. Persistent rain through Spring and early summer meant not only was harvest delayed by several weeks as fruit ripened slowly, but disease pressures were high with winemaker and grape grower nerves being put to the test. Luckily a healthy vineyard and some warm sunshine in early autumn helped the fruit develop nicely, producing a suite of pretty, more subtle wines this year.
The Hell Series wines represent our experimentation with winemaking techniques, and allow the fruit to express different, unique and compelling characteristics.
Nero d’Avola is, in our minds, the ultimate Australian grape variety. Hardy and drought resistant, it produces good size crops that are absolutely packed with flavour and natural acidity. It thrives in the hot, dry climate of the Riverland, and when farmed organically and biodynamically, it produces the best fruit in the region by far. Fermented on skins for 14 days, hand plunged twice daily and pumped over twice during fermentation, the wine is pressed off to old French hogsheads for elevage for 8 months.
Amora
Dense, pungent mixed berry on the nose, carob and mossy earth with a crack of white pepper spice.
Palate:  Big flavour and acid on the palate, cranberry and pomegranate pop against well evolved tannin to create refreshing but serious drinking.

Food Pairing: Best pals with pepperoni pizza (rocket and honey on top optional), or a nice big fatty tomahawk steak.
