2016 Contraste Douro White

Background : made from a 10 year old vineyard in a small granite plateau (600 meter above sea level) in the parish of Freixo deNumão, 15 km to the West of FozCôa.
Vineyard Information : A warm and wet winter was followed by a cold and extremely wet spring, demanding for extensive labor to protect the vineyards. Ripening was slightly delayed and a hot and dry summer, favoring the development of healthy grapes. A globally dry harvest with very welcomed moderate spells of rain ensured what ended up to be a high-quality crop.。
Soil : Grainite
Age of Vine : around 10 years
Varieties : Majors as Rabigato，Códegado Larinho，Códega & Arinto
Anuual Output : 20,000 bottles
Harvest : Mid-Sept, hand-picked, placed in small boxes.
Color : light yellow
Aromas/Palate : fresh fruit and mineral aromas. This is a fruity wine, crisp with citrus acidity and bright with light minerality and zest. It is a refreshing wine with an attractive sliced apple and melon aftertaste.
Alcohol : 13% Sugar Residual : 0.6 gram/Liter
Drinkable Period : 2017 - 2023
Winemaker's Report : Grapes are refrigerated, and then pressed in pneumatic press. Cold decanting, then fermentation in barrels and stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature and regular batonnage until one month before bottling, which took place in April, 2017.
As for elevage, 6 months in new and used oak French oak barrels (30% of the wine) and stainless steel tank (70%) with regular batonnage.
Expert Comment : It has good volume for the level and the good freshness. I anticipate here, too. It is round and relatively concentrated and full feel is impressive at its level this year, but it is always elegant, too. There is good acidity supporting everything. Then, it finishes with some tension and some traces of herbs. This should age well for the level in good years like this
