Production information
2017 Conceito Vinho White

Background: made from a 10 year old vineyard in a small granite plateau (600 meter above sea level) in the parish of Freixo deNumão, 15 km to the West of FozCôa.
Region: Douro DOC
Vineyard Information:  Severe draught throughout Winter and Spring, spread over the hot Summer, all leading to one of the earliest harvests ever tobe recorded. The draught prevented most diseases, and the grapes ripened really healthy. The harvest was not only early but also very short, making it hard to find labor. It started in early August and finished in the end of September, a usual time to be starting.
Soil:  Grainite        Age of Vine: around 90 years
Varieties:  Field blend of about 10 different traditional grapes varieties, including Rabigato,Códegado Larinho,Códega,Gouveio,Donzelinho Branco,Folgazão,Arinto。
Annual Output:  7,000 bottles
Color : light yellow
Style/Palate: concentration and intense white-fruit flavors. It is strongly textured, bringing together minerality and some wood-aging flavors with good balance. These, along with fruit and acidity, suggest aging
Aromas: wood-aged. It is perfumed white fruits bring in apple, green plum.
Alcohol: 13%   Sugar Residual: 1.1 g/Liter   Acidity: 7.2 g/L   PH: 3.06
Drinkable Period: 2018 - 2031
Winemaker’s Report: Grapes are refrigerated and then pressed in pneumatic press, without destemming. Cold decanting, then fermentation with controlled temperature in French oak barrels and regular batônnage until one month before bottling, which took place in June 2018.
Elevage: 10 months in used oak barrels with regular batônnage.
Expert Comment: it does a pretty good job of maintaining acidity, but it is certainly fruit forward in this vintage. It is already showing nicely and handles the oak well. It should still be able to age, but it remains to be seen where this very young blend goes. I suspect it will improve steadily over the several years
Score/Award:  Wine Advocate: 93 point
Food Pairing: shells, fish, chicken
