2018 Murdoch Hill Artisan Sulky Blanc

Production information
2018 Murdoch Hill Artisan Sulky Blanc

Region: Adelaide Hill, Australia
Background: The Artisan series are very exclusive wines made in small quantities. They are a tribute to the late Tom Downer (1918-1984) a passionate collector of horse drawn vehicles.
Vineyard : This textural aromatic blend is comprised of Riesling from Macclesfield and Lenswood, with a dash of Pinot Gris from Lobethal.
Variety: 85% Riesling, 15% Pinot Gris
Color: light yellow
Climate/soil: Shallow cool climate, harder soil, medium clay subsoil loam, with iron ore, quartz schist soil
Harvest Date: March 2018
Bottling date: 21rd of June 2018
Style/Palate: a lip-smacking, textural number with lime and pear aromatics and fine persistent acidity with mouth-watering melon and lime flavors that linger onto a chalky textural back palate.
Aroma:  Shows green pear, rose petal pot pourri, ginger, preserved lemon scents.
Alcohol : 12%
Winemaking : Spontaneous wild fermentation occurs in older barrels after pressing with partial skin contact to add structure. Maturation was for 2 months in barrel and two month in stainless steel tank before bottling.
These techniques were employed to help make a more approachable wines style, with layers of complexity whilst still displaying the varietal expression of Riesling, Pinot Gris adds mid palate weight and texture to the final blend.
