2019 Murdoch Hill Sauvignon Blanc

Production information
2019  Murdoch Hill Sauvignon Blanc

Region: Adelaide Hill, South Australia
Vineyard : Murdoch Hill vineyard situated in the cool climate Adelaide Hills
near the township of Oakbank, in an undulating valley 420m in elevation.
Varieties:  100%Sauvignon Blanc
Color: Vibrant and bright pale white wine
Climate/Soil:  The climate is cool. The soil structure in this area is predominately sandy loam over medium clay sub-soils, with varying levels of ironstone, quartz and schist rock.
Vintage: Overall 2019 has produced some outstanding fruit, although coming with challenges with testing condition at flowering with cold, windy and hail events effecting flowering. Ultimately this resulted in very low yields in most varieties. January experienced very dry and warm conditions that continued into harvest, however cooler than 2018 and 2016, the low yields accelerated ripening, whilst holding on to rather high acidity. The resulting wines require patience and show brilliant depth of flavor.
Style/Palate: This Sauvignon Blanc carries the signature characteristics of the Adelaide Hills’ style with a clean and crisp palate of gooseberries and citrus fruits, followed by delicate acidity and a complementing mineral finish.
Amora: notes of aromatic stone and tropical fruits on the nose.
Alcohol:  12.5%
Drinkable Period:  Drink now to 2022
Winemakers Report: The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are hand-picked in whole bunches before the fruit is crushed then chilled and gently pressed. The juice is cold settled and racked before a slow fermented using selective yeast in stainless steel tanks. This method seeks to express all the fine attributes of this wine style. While 30% of this wine is warm settled to retain more solids and then fermented using wild spontaneous yeast in older barriques, this helps aid in texture and structure to the wine.
Expert Comment : A low-yielding vintage has delivered intense, passion-fruit and nectarine character here. The palate has juicy, bright and fresh appeal. Plenty of fruit in 2019.
