2021 was the kindest vintage we have experienced in 9 years of Delinquente – a La Nina cycle bringing good spring rainfall, mild summer temperatures and cool crisp nights. Mild seasons that allow a lot of hang time on the vine allows good tannin and character development. Grapes even reached flavour ripeness before sugar ripeness.
Bianco d'Alessano is an uncommon variety from Puglia in Southern Italy. The Sherwood Estate vineyard in Loxton has the only planting of Bianco d'Alessano in Australia – the vines are now coming up to 15 years old, are looking as healthy and strong as ever, and producing some wonderful fruit on year.
Fermented in stainless steel with wild vineyard yeast, the wine was bottled under crown seal to finish ferment, resulting in the Petillant Naturel.
Style/Palate : light sparkling style. It's so bright and clean. Perfect beady, fuzzy fizz pops in the mouth, where the fruits are present but increasing we see more of the herbaceous, savoury, moreish characters come through. Fresh, persistent, delicious – a wine made for sunshine savouring.
Aromas : intense tropical and citrus fruit.
Food Pairing : perfect for brunch, summer picnic in the park, sunset in the porch or with freshly shucked oysters.
