Production information
2013 Elderton Fifteen Shiraz

History : A single vineyard expression of Shiraz from a vineyard that turned 100 years old in 2015, and is located on the western ridge of the famous Barossa Valley. Originally planted by the Helbig family in 1915, the vineyard became a very sought after parcel for the Barossa's leading winemakers. Luckily for the Ashmead family, we were able to acquire this vineyard in late 2010, forever ending the race to get this amazing fruit.
Variety : Shiraz
Vineyard :  Greenock, single vineyard block planted in 1915, sandy loam soil.
Output : less than 960 bottles
Color : Dense, dark purple
Palate/Style : Mass blockbuster red wine. Rich, round, spicy and intense with great length and complexity.
Alcohol : 15.5%
Winemaking : the wine, hailing from the 2013 vintage, is a supreme example of rich and luscious Barossa Shiraz. It was hand picked, fermented in a large barrel (around 1500 liters) and left on skins in this closed vessel for about six weeks. The wine was then pressed and spent a couple of winters in some of our favourite French oak.
Score : Wine Advocate 97 points
Expert Commnet : Sourced from a tiny single block of vineyard planted in 1915, the very deep garnet-purple 2013 Fifteen Shiraz is a brand new, 100% Shiraz wine aged in 100% new French oak. It opens to an incredible nose loaded with dark chocolate and crushed blueberries, plums, cloves, raw meat, licorice, tar and a whiff of incense. Big, powerful and concentrated, it is built like a brick house and framed by firm, grainy tannins. It finishes quite earthy and long in the finish.
